hi bud buds,

no op-ed this week since i’m traveling in tokyo 😎 lmk if you have any recs

xoxo,

dj

last week’s product releases

sick

  • google released real-time speech translation in google meet, starting with english ↔ spanish. this is the future

  • waymo rides requested via uber will start rolling out to waitlist users in atlanta this summer. i’m a waymo fanboy

  • spotify released upcoming releases hub, with pre-saves, countdowns, merch, and auto-library adds. spotify needs to keep doing more of this “fan hub” type shi, not sure why they haven’t a long time ago. feels like a no brainer to make the platform more sticky

  • amazon music released explore, an ai search tool for learning more about artists + discographies. seems like a fun engaging feature

that’s good

  • google is launching synthid detector, a tool to detect ai-generated images, video, audio, and text using watermarking.

kinda bearish ngl

  • google announced ai mode for search, giving hundreds of millions of people a button to converse with an ai agent that will visit web pages, summarize them any way they’d like, or even help them shop

  • shopify released ai-powered store builder, which lets merchants launch storefronts from a single prompt. feels like you’ll just get meh, low conversion results, when everything about shopify is juicing conversion

  • google released xr-based glasses, featuring hardware from gentle monster + warby parker. all my cool design friends love gentle monster, so that's cool. but I'm still kind of bearish about glasses as a form factor for consumer hardware. as a lifelong glasses wearer, they’re just too annoying to be worth it

  • amazon released ai-powered audio summaries, voiced by ai “experts”, now live on select listings. just don’t see the value prop of the audio medium

bye bye i love you all,

dj
